How European venture breaks down by country

eu-tailwind tracks 779 VC-backed rounds raised by European startups since 2021, spread across 24 countries with enough tracked activity to chart. Browse any country to see its biggest raises, the investors most active there, and the sectors pulling in capital. The numbers below are EUR-normalised so a London round and a Berlin round sit on the same scale, and they refresh whenever a new round lands in the tracker.

Capital is not spread evenly. United Kingdom leads the table with €36B tracked across 150 rounds, followed by Germany at €26B and France at €18B. Those three account for the bulk of the headline raises, but the long tail matters: smaller ecosystems in the Nordics, the Baltics, and Central Europe show up with concentrated, high-conviction rounds rather than volume, which is exactly the signal a fundraise-by-fundraise tracker is built to surface.

The single largest round in the dataset is Northvolt's $2.75B Growth Equity in Sweden, the kind of raise that gets read as proof Europe cannot scale a winner and, just as often, as proof that it now can. We track both readings. Each country page carries the same caveat: round sizes are public, the individual cheque each fund wrote is not, so we rank by tracked round value and deal count, never by an invented per-investor figure.

How does eu-tailwind rank European countries?
